2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Westminster Christian finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Westminster Christian finished sixth in Class 4A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Westminster Christian took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2009. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2007. Westminster Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game. Westminster Christian struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.5 points a game. Since 2010, Westminster Christian has gone a combined 41-32. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 12 seasons, Westminster Christian has managed to compile a record of 58-64. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 4A and 220th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Louis LeBlanc who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Westminster Christian. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach LeBlanc. Coach LeBlanc's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). The Westminster Christian Wildcats will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2017 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, Westminster Christian will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent New Hope on Friday, August 25 at Earl Van Dyke Stadium. Last year the New Hope Indians finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region seven. The Indians closed out the regular season with a loss to Midfield by a score of 48-47. Westminster Christian and New Hope have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 7-1-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2016 with New Hope winning by a score of 15-6. College prospects include: Jeremiah Childs (5-10, 170) athlete, Michael Parker (6-5, 230) tight end, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
